Myth of tire pressure reviled!

To make things easy:
Rider & Bike weight: 200lbs.
Tire tread width: 1 inch

If the rider has position of exactly 50% on each tire then:

Rider & Bike Weight = real world pressure
Tire width x 2

200= 100lbs/tire
1x2

If I had a 1.25” (1 ¼”)

200= 80lbs/tire
2.5

This is to get the rated tread pattern for the tire to have full contact with the road.
There is not a reason to beat yourself up from road shock.
Have a tire that allows you the performance that you want.

Now, in the real world the rider can be positioned with weight distribution of 40% front and 60% rear.

Take the calculated tire pressure and multiply by the coefficient.

100 (lbs) X .8 = 80 lbs for the front tire
100 X 1.2 = 120lbs. if the tire is rated for this type of pressure.
If not then either purchase one that can or go to a tire that is 20% larger for the back.

Happy riding!
