The custom handlebar system was created in 1993 for me when I built my first frameset for myself. Because of the abnormalities of my body geometry (short torso and a long set of ape arms), I needed a system that could keep me both prone and aero in the same position over the steering axis. By having the ability to create a handlebar out of high strength steel, I not only succeeded in my objective, I created a work of art that to this day is copied but not matched in strength and lightness out of any material.

I am now offering for those who have the need to have a custom handlebar system to place an order. If you know the measurements of the areas listed in the form order page, then I can quote you a price. Custom options can include internal cable routing, brake lever set-up and paint. For those who wish to purchase my OS-Link frameset that is able to come apart for travel, I also offer a custom bar that has the ability to disassemble and fit in a suitcase.

Brake options include the ability to modify standard drop bar levers to fit by custom machining the lever mounts and using a unique mount made out of a down tube shift lever mount. If you desired to use an ATB brake lever then the clamp can be modified to fit the bar using a water bottle mount.

This is the second generation of the custom bar built for the "Joker". Here I have internal cable routing and the ends of the bar parallel to the extension. I found that fatigue set in early and the position prevented my chest from opening to its optimal lung capacity. Hence the…

Generation 3 bar system. By having the hand extension at a more level position, the elbows are in an outward position allowing the chest area to open up and allow the lungs to get their full capacity. Another advantage to this design is that it allows a more natural position for the wrists to sit. I find a great deal of less fatigue that sets in over the longer haul. Here shown with the Avid brake levers. I chose the Avid levers because of the adjustable leverage for the change in weight for touring.

I now have the quill pass through the stem center piece for greater strength to the join.

I now have racked up over 68,000 miles on my handlebars (as of this date of 3-05). Using True Temper's Platinum tubsets, there are more than four more joins to these works of art than a traditional bicycle frame. The unseen secrete to the arm rest is that I use a downtube shift lever mount that sits inside the tube for additional strength and to have something to screw on the pad rest. The cost of building a set of these bars is around $600 American. I have a reduction in the labor cost compared to my framesets. This helps to be more inline with the competition’s pricing and to better help my customers to find the "Perfect Fit" for their ride.

Cane Creek Reverse brake levers are an option for the bars. Great simplicity for custom bars!
